The documentary “Fear Remains” is an attempt to understand how war and internment transform an individual and how they define a nation.<\/p>\n
Since there are no studies on war, post-war trauma, and intergenerational transmission of trauma in Slovenia, we know little about it as a community.<\/p>\n
Foreign studies have shown that war trauma carves into the neurobiology of subsequent generations and is manifested in violence, personality disorders,<\/p>\n
addictions, suicidality, political discourse, and also in people’s self-image.<\/p>\n
The starting point for the creation of the documentary is the photographic-documentary exhibition “The Last Witnesses,” by authors,<\/p>\n
journalist Sa\u0161a Petejan, photographer Mance Juvan, and historian Ur\u0161ka Strle.<\/p>\n
The author’s photos by Juvan, featuring the few remaining living internees, dictated the film’s visual appearance.<\/p>\n
The rhythm is provided by displays of artworks created in fascist camps, which are kept in the Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia in Ljubljana.<\/p>\n
The purpose of the documentary is to preserve the historical memory of fascist camps and internment in them.<\/p>\n
At the same time, it encourages reflection on the impact of traumatic experiences on the individual and society.<\/p>\n

The documentary film “Fear Remains” in Cerknica and Ljubljana We announce two screenings of the documentary film “Fear Remains,” memories of internment in Italian fascist camps in Cerknica and Ljubljana. As part of the project Between Memory and Oblivion, on 19th October 2023, at 7 PM, a screening will be held at the Cultural Center in Cerknica. This will be followed by a discussion between the journalist and screenwriter of the documentary film, Sa\u0161a Petejan, and the director, Du\u0161an Moravec. A screening will follow on 6th November 2023, at 6 PM, at the Ljubljana City Library, Oton \u017dupan\u010di\u010d Library. Historian Dr. Ur\u0161ka Strle will join Sa\u0161a Petejan for a discussion. “Fear Remains” is a documentary film about the legacy of internment in Italian fascist camps. In the years 1942 and 1943, Mussolini’s army interned many Slovenians in Italian fascist camps. The memory of these events has been pushed into oblivion at home and abroad, with the understanding of fascism being distorted. Consequently, the perpetrators of the discussed war crimes remained unpunished. The film was created based on the testimonies and photographs of the documentary-photographic exhibition “The Last Witnesses,” co-authored by photographer Mance Juvan, historian Dr. Ur\u0161ka Strle, and journalist Sa\u0161a Petejan.
