In cooperation with the organization Balkanska iniciativa za toleranciju from Serbia, APIS Institute has successfully conducted the workshop for digital storytelling through use of video and photography tools for youth workers. This workshop was the first part of an ongoing one year project 3M- Multimedia Multipliers from the Margins, dedicated to the exchange of best practices of technology use for a bigger social inclusion. The project was carried out in the framework of the Erasmus + program in order to develop organization capacities in the field of migrant work. 12 organizations from 12 countries were part of the partnership.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

The digital-storytelling workshop lasted for one week and included 27 youth workers from Slovenia, Serbia, Croatia, Italy, Albania, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Latvia, Portugal, Romania, Turkey, Northern Ireland and France. Partner organizations and youth workers which have participated in the training were working directly with vulnerable groups (refugees, minorities, migrants, unemployed youth\u2026), but in many cases were representatives of those same groups themselves. During the training they have achieved the knowledge and experiences of using video, photography and digital storytelling as a tool of empowerment and media for a more tolerant society, tools which all have given those vulnerable groups a voice.<\/span><\/p>\n

The participants have prepared\u00a04 short movies<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a014 photo-series<\/a>\u00a0during the training. The stories get into parts of the society that are ignored and not listened to, media often avoid them or poorly report on their regard.<\/span><\/p>\n

The training in Belgrade was conducted by APIS Institute. The coordination and organization of the training was taken care of by BIT from Serbia directed by Ivana Stanojev. Photography mentor was\u00a0Luka Dakskobler<\/a>, mentor of the video production was Romana Zajec, mentor of video editing was Borut Dolenc.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aside from the classic form of documentary photography and video where participants present their stories through photo-series and short movies, we have also included those about whom the photo and video stories were made. Hence, the training not only took place in order to enhance\u00a0a better social inclusion, but\u00a0the training became inclusive itself. The first example is the story about Aleksander Markovi\u010d who decided to change his\u00a0sex\u00a0gender. This story was shown through different media tools:\u00a0a\u00a0photo-story from a Latvian author,\u00a0a\u00a0film from a Turkish, Serbian and Latvian author, but in the same time Aleksander Markovic\u00a0captured\u00a0his story\u00a0in photography\u00a0himself as one of the authors\u00a0of the exhibition. His photographies were included in the film\u00a0So ***king special<\/i><\/a>. The story became transmedia as it was portrayed through different media tools and from different views and perspectives.<\/span><\/p>\n

Next to our 14 photo-series, we have also included another guest which is himself the protagonist of a photo-series A Spaceship of Secrets. In his story about autism, the participant from Italy included photographies of a 15 year old autistic boy in\u00a0his digital story<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ioane Pinzariu’s photo-series is the third who managed to include the protagonist in the storytelling. The man bellow is Ivan Djordjevi\u0107 lost everything, but her own life. He lost all his family and his partner who died from drug addiction at 27 years old. Ioane showed us his every day life after he was released from prison, where he decided not to return to hell of addiction anymore.<\/span><\/p>\n

When he was in prison, Ioane wrote a story about his tragic life period of losses, pain and addiction. The story is written from a cat’s perspective that lived with him. After the photo-series, Ivan released it with the help of BIT and presented it publicly in the frame of Storyclub in Belgrade.<\/span><\/p>\n
