Stave<\/strong> has a lifelong academic experience in the field of oral history and he is Board of Trustees Distingushed Professor of Histiry Emeritus at the University of Connecticut. He has conducted a wide variety of oral history projects over four decades, and was the winner of the New England Association of Oral History&#8217;s first Harvey Kantor Memorial Award for Outstanding Work in Oral History.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">His wife <strong>Sondra<\/strong> conducted approximately one hundred interviews for her book, Achieving Racial Balance: Case Studies of Contemporary School Desegregation, and has conducted town and family oral histories.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">In June 2012 they offered a workshop on <strong>Oral history and Memory: understanding the past from the perspective of the present<\/strong> in Slovenia. Attending \u00a0were academics using oral history methods in their research and work. Among other topics they stressed and evaluated the merits of the remark by well known Italian oral historian, <strong>Alessandro Portelli<\/strong>, who stated:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Oral sources tell us not just what people did, but what they wanted to do, what they believed they were doing and what they now think they did.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0Their presence and work in Slovenia ignited an initiative to establish an\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/instituteapis.org\/oral-history-society-slovenia\/\">Oral History Society Slovenia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Director of the Oral History Office at the University of Connecticut Bruce M.
